READING, PA — Police in Reading say a man wanted in a deadly shooting and home invasion on Lancaster Avenue has been arrested in New York. Investigators allege the attack left one man dead and another seriously hurt inside a residence in the city early Friday morning.
Authorities say the case began just after 2 a.m. on July 10 in the 500 block of Lancaster Avenue, where officers found two adult men with gunshot wounds. One of the victims, 45-year-old Alex Rosado-Laboy, died. The other, a 57-year-old Reading man, survived with serious injuries.
What do investigators say happened inside the home?
According to police, 43-year-old Amaury Rosado-Laboy is accused of forcing his way into the residence and shooting both men. Investigators say the confrontation unfolded inside the home before the suspect fled the scene.
Police also allege that after the shooting, he stole a vehicle and left Pennsylvania. The account has not been tested in court, and officials say the charges remain allegations.
How was the suspect taken into custody?
The Woodbury Police Department in Orange County, New York, arrested Amaury Rosado-Laboy on July 11, according to Reading police. He is being held while awaiting extradition back to Berks County.
That transfer would bring the case back to the county where the shooting happened, allowing local prosecutors to move forward with the homicide case and related charges.
What charges is he expected to face?
Reading police say Rosado-Laboy is expected to be arraigned on first-degree murder, second-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and additional related charges. Officials said the investigation is still active.
Police also reminded the public that criminal charges are allegations and that a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
What information are police asking the public to provide?
Investigators are asking anyone with information about the homicide to contact the Reading Police Department at 610-655-6116. Anonymous tips may also be sent to Crime Alert Berks County at 1-877-373-9913.
Police said cash rewards are available for tips that lead to an arrest, as the department continues to piece together what happened before and after the shooting.
