NORTH HAVEN, CT — A motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 91 North in North Haven on Sunday evening, according to Connecticut State Police. The crash happened near Exit 13 shortly after 7:15 p.m. and brought a response from state troopers.
What did investigators say happened on the highway?
Police said the motorcycle was traveling between the left and center lanes when it sideswiped a U-Haul truck in the center lane. After that contact, the rider lost control and struck a Subaru in the left lane, state police said.
The motorcycle then overturned, throwing the rider from the bike. He hit a metal guardrail on the left shoulder, according to the report.
Who was hurt in the collision?
The rider was identified by state police as a 36-year-old Southington man. He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital with serious injuries.
No one in the U-Haul or Subaru was hurt, police said. The truck was driven away from the scene, while the Subaru and the motorcycle were towed.
Why was I-91 closed after the crash?
Authorities shut down the highway after the wreck while they investigated the scene. The closure was part of the immediate response as troopers worked to document what happened and clear the damaged vehicles from the roadway.
