FARMINGTON, CT — A Farmington man was charged with driving under the influence after a Monday afternoon crash that involved a school bus, a motorcycle and a pickup truck and left one woman dead. Police said the collision happened near the intersection of Meadow Road and Plainville Avenue, also known as Route 177.
Investigators said the pickup hit the other two vehicles from behind as they traveled west on Meadow Road. The crash is still under investigation.
Who was hurt in the crash?
Police identified the motorcycle rider as 39-year-old Ciera Schultz of Bristol. She was given emergency treatment at the scene and taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died.
Officials said the school bus had a driver and one child on board at the time of the collision. The bus driver was not injured, and the 7-year-old child was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

According to a preliminary investigation, the bus, motorcycle and pickup were all traveling west on Meadow Road as they approached Plainville Avenue. Police said the pickup struck the bus and motorcycle from behind.
First responders found all three vehicles at the scene after the 4 p.m. crash on Monday. The sequence of impact remains part of the active investigation.
Who was charged after the collision?
Police identified the pickup driver as Gary Berube. He was taken into custody by Farmington police and initially charged with driving under the influence.
Authorities have not announced any additional charges, and no further details about Berube were included in the police account.
