Traffic on a highway after a tractor-trailer crash caused lane closures in Ontario County

FARMINGTON, NY — Traffic reopened on a stretch of the New York State Thruway in Ontario County after a Friday morning crash shut down eastbound lanes for several hours. The collision happened around 5:30 a.m. on Interstate 90 between Hook Road and County Road 8 in Farmington.

State police said three tractor-trailers were involved. One driver was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

What caused the shutdown on Interstate 90?

Officials diverted eastbound traffic at Exit 44 while crews responded to the scene. The detour produced a long backup on Route 96 between Farmington and Manchester, where drivers could re-enter the Thruway at Exit 43.

Police said heavy tow trucks were brought in to remove the damaged vehicles.

How long did the diversion last?

The traffic diversion remained in place until about 10:15 a.m., when it was lifted. Even after the detour ended, the right lane near the crash scene stayed closed while recovery and cleanup continued.

That left some traffic impacts in the area after the main closure had been cleared.

Who was hurt in the crash?

State police said one driver required hospital treatment after the wreck. The injuries were described as serious but not believed to be life-threatening.

No additional details about the driver’s condition or the identities of those involved were released.

What is known now about the investigation?

Police have not released further information about what led to the crash. At this point, officials have only confirmed the time, location, vehicles involved and the response that followed.

The scene was still being cleared after the main lanes reopened, and no updated timeline for any remaining restrictions was provided.
