BRIDGEPORT, CT — Strong storms swept through southwest Connecticut on Tuesday, leaving pockets of flooding in parts of the state before the severe weather threat eased by evening. Officials said the tornado watch that covered portions of western Connecticut has now ended.
Rainfall came down at rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour in some spots, with totals reaching about 5 inches in towns and cities in the southwest part of the state.

Bridgeport police reported several flooded roadways were shut down during the storms. The closures included East Main Street and Crescent Street, Bishop Avenue at the Railroad Avenue viaduct, River Street between North Washington Avenue and North Avenue, and State Street at Iranistan Avenue.
The closures reflected the concentrated nature of the flooding, which affected low-lying and heavily traveled streets in the city.
