NEW HAVEN, CT — One person was killed and two others were hurt in a car crash Saturday afternoon in New Haven, according to police. Officers were called to the 600 block of Woodward Avenue at about 1:30 p.m. after reports of a crash.
Investigators said the car was traveling south on Woodward Avenue when it struck a tree.
Who Was Found at the Scene?
When officers arrived, they found the rear-seat passenger, an 18-year-old man from Bridgeport, on the ground near the vehicle. The driver, a 20-year-old woman from Bridgeport, and the front-seat passenger, a 23-year-old woman from West Haven, were still inside the car and had injuries.
Police said all three were taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment.
What Do Investigators Say About the Victim?
Police said the 23-year-old woman from West Haven later died from her injuries. She was identified as Jocelyn Hernandez.
The driver was reported in critical condition, while the rear passenger’s injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening.
What Is Known About How the Crash Happened?
Authorities have not released additional details about what caused the vehicle to leave the road and hit the tree. The crash remains under investigation.
At this stage, police have not said whether speed, impairment or another factor played a role.
