BRONX, NY — A 58-year-old Mount Vernon man was arrested Wednesday night after police said he shot and killed his niece on a Bronx street in a dispute tied to an inherited home.
Authorities said the victim, 39-year-old Julia Anderson, was hit multiple times in the stomach Monday night as she was about to get into her black Jeep in the Wakefield section.
What happened on Murdock Avenue?
Police said Anderson was found lying on the ground near her vehicle on Murdock Avenue after officers responded to a 911 call about the shooting.
She was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where she died, according to police.
Who is facing charges in the case?
Investigators identified the suspect as Michael Foster, who was taken into custody in the Bronx and later charged with murder, manslaughter and 10 counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
By Wednesday night, Foster was being brought from the 47th Precinct to a police car and was awaiting arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court.
What did investigators say about the motive?
Law enforcement sources said the shooting appeared to stem from a dispute over an inherited home. Foster and Anderson both lived in the same residence in Mount Vernon, according to the report.
Members of the NYPD Crime Scene Unit were seen searching a Bell Avenue home in the Westchester County suburb late Wednesday and carried out bags of evidence.
What else is known about the victim?
Anderson’s mother, Beverley Patterson, told Fox5 that her daughter worked as a disability aide and was about a month away from turning 40.
Patterson said her daughter had gone to work and never came home. She described Anderson as tall and said she looked similar to her mother.
