Police investigate a moped crash in Queens after a parked SUV door was opened

QUEENS, NY — A 13-year-old boy was killed and another teenager was injured Monday afternoon when a moped struck an open driver’s side door in Flushing, Queens, according to police. The crash happened on 162nd Street around 12:30 p.m. and left neighbors shaken at the scene.

Investigators said the driver of the moped swerved to avoid the parked SUV’s door, then lost control. The passenger fell from the bike and made contact with a southbound truck traveling on the same street.
