Bronxville Winter Track: Boys and Girls League Champs
January 11, 2023
Looking back at the school’s track and field programs in previous years, we see an increase in popularity of the sport and success here at Bronxville. With the boys cross country team winning states this year and girls taking home the Section 1 title, both teams worked hard, determined to finish off the season strong.
Winter track kicked off in November, with the team mostly competing at The Armory in New York City. Both the girls and boys teams won the league championship this past week for the first time in 4 years, beating schools including Pleasantville, Irvington, Westlake, and Putnam Valley. While all three Bronco girls placed in the weight throw event, two placed in the top 3, with senior Whitney Rowan taking first by throwing 25 feet. Two Broncos also took top 3 in shot put.
Earlier in the season, the 4×200 boys relay (Davis Patterson, Jamie Valdes, Pierce Patterson, and Max Morgan) set a new school record of 1:33.96, (previously set in 2019 by PJ Kristinki, Eric Fleisig, Connor Randall, and Henry Donohue) and qualified for nationals. With hopes in qualifying for the 4×400 as well, the boys missed the national cut by a mere 2 seconds this past week at Leagues, clocking a respectable time of 3:36.66. The team has 9 meets left remaining this season, including sectionals, states, and nationals.
