Kayla Tatarian: Diving State Qualifier and Aspiring Law Student
November 15, 2022
Kayla Tatarian is a senior at Bronxville High School here in Bronxville, New York. She has been attending the school since kindergarten, and her father, Dean, works as a gym teacher. Kayla began competing in gymnastics at a young age, starting off at Spotlight in Pelham and switched gyms five times before she began diving in eighth grade. She says she enjoys both sports equally, and joined the varsity swimming and diving team that year but unfortunately did not compete due to a concussion.
This year she has the role as one of three captains on the team alongside seniors Keala Schubert and Julia Bazinet. Kayla dives six days a week at Cuny Purchase in Harrison, New York. On Sundays (her day off from diving), she runs from her house to the school track before running back home, reaching around four miles. She discovered her love for running while trying to find a way to stay active on her days off. In past weeks, Kayla qualified for the NYS Championships that will take place in Rochester, New York on November 18th. She stated this morning, “This has been a goal I’ve had my entire high school career, so as a senior it was nice to finally achieve that.” Apart from diving and running, Kayla loves watching true crime documentaries and hopes to study public policy and law in college.
