Bronxville’s 2022 Squash Team

Andrew Shah and Quentin McCarthy

The Bronxville Squash Varsity A Team has just finished their season ranked 1st in their division with a record of 6-1. The team, which plays in the Fairwest League, was matched up against Varsity Squash programs from Briarcliff, Darien, Fairfield, Greenwich, New Canaan, New Haven, Rye, Scarsdale, Westport, and Harlem. The team’s only loss was against Greenwich Varsity A in which they were defeated 4 to 3 in a best of 7 matchup. In these matches, each player per team is seeded within their team 1-7. The like seeded players compete against each other in a best of 5 match. Each of these matches is valued equally, and the team that wins the most of these individual matches wins the game. In terms of individual matches, Bronxville went 39-10, an astounding number.

On February 25, the team will travel to the US Squash headquarters, in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, to compete in the US High School Squash National Championships. This year, they are seeded 1-4 in Division 2, competing with other schools both public and private including St. Pauls, Taft, and Darien Varsity A. Ranked 1st in public school squash programs in the country, Bronxville Varsity A hopes to bring home the Division 2 championship.

Throughout the season and at nationals, student-athlete Rustin Wiser will be instrumental to the team’s success. Rustin is currently ranked 7 in the country in the BU17 (boys under 17) age division and is undefeated so far in the school season. He hopes to emerge victorious against some of the tough matches he has to play. Other players such as Charlie Clifford, Molly Stoltz, Andrew Shah, and Drew Doyle are all returning team members from last year who hope to play well at nationals this year.
