The enduring Broadway and film classic Hello Dolly! will get its latest revival when it lights up Bronxville High School from February 9-11, 2023.

The 1964 hit Broadway musical Hello Dolly! was based on Thornton Wilder’s The Matchmaker. It won 10 Tony Awards, which was a record until 2001.

Hello Dolly! was on Broadway for six years and played 2,844 performances, which was another record at that time. While on Broadway, Hello Dolly! starred Ginger Rogers, Pearl Bailey, Phyllis Diller, and Betty Grable.

The wonderful hit has had four Broadway revivals, most recently in 2017, with Bette Midler stepping to star as Dolly Levi. The fan favorite won four additional Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical and Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role a Musical for Midler. The 2017 revival closed on August 25, 2018 after 550 performances.

Hello Dolly! tells the story of widowed matchmaker Dolly Levi, who is also a professional meddler. Everything changes when she decides that the next match she needs to make is to find someone for herself. Set in New York City at the turn of the century, Hello Dolly! is boisterous and charming from start to finish. Hello, Dolly features such memorable songs as “Before the Parade Passes By,” “It Only Takes a Moment,” “Put on Your Sunday Clothes,” and the title number, “Hello, Dolly!” Dolly herself is one of the strongest and richest starring roles for a woman ever written for the musical theater (source: StageAgent.com).

The 1969 film version of Hello Dolly!, starring Barbara Streisand, was nominated for seven Oscars, including best picture, and won three for art direction, sound and best score of a musical. There’s another major local tie-in as some of the more memorable scenes were filmed in nearby Garrison when the town was used as a stand-in for Yonkers.
