This Saturday, February 5, 2022 the boys and girls track and field teams competed in the Section 1 Track Championships at the Armory in New York City. Both teams worked hard to bring home a victory. The girls team won the Sectional Team Championship outscoring their closest competitor, 144 to 51. While the boys team won the Section Team Championship outscoring their closest competitor, 96 to 63. 

The following girls were Sectional Champions: Milly Koenig (LJ, 300, 4 x 200), Maddy Williams (3000, 4 x 800), Maddy Stupart (1000, 4 x 400), Ava Black (1500, 4×400), Danielle Dragoni (55m), Remi Mellinghoff (Triple Jump), Katie O’Hare (4 x 800), Rory Denning (4 x 800), Isabela Fenner (4 x 800), Caroline Ircha (4 x 200), Juliet Winiecki (4 x 200), Donna Napolitano (4 x 200), Hope Hershberg (4 x 400), and Amy Villanueva (4 x 400). And during the meet, 11 PRs were set. 

The following boys were Sectional Champions: Aiden McBride (4×200), Dash Kwan (4×200), Eamonn O’Reilly (4×200), Pierce Patterson (4×200), and Chris Lockwood (shot put, weighthrow).

As Hope Hershberg stated, “I think the teams do a great job supporting each other and pushing each other to succeed” and we hope to see these successes in the near future.

Although the season has ended for most people, some athletes from the teams will continue competing. We have the Varsity Classic this Monday, February 7 at the Armory, the Purple Champions Invitational on February 12, and the North Shore Invitational on February 18. As we continue to practice and further our successes, the teams hope to take on States and Nationals.
