Artist Spotlight: Grace Gramins

April 6, 2021
In only her junior year at Bronxville, Grace Gramins is already an accomplished singer / songwriter. She describes her primary music genre as indie pop, drawing inspiration from modern pop artists such as Coldplay, Lindsey Lomis, Sara Bareilles, and Billie Eilish as well as classic artists Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and U2. “I think everything you hear has an influence, in one way or another,” Gramins says.
At just five years old, Gramins began learning the violin. At 10, she picked up piano — eventually leading her to begin working with chords and writing pop music on her own. In sixth grade, Gramins played her first show at the Bitter End, New York’s oldest rock club. Inviting her friends, she charged $10 at the door and donated the money to charity. Since then, Grace has continued going back to the Bitter End each year, playing a mix of her own songs and covers.
In October of 2020, Gramins released her newest single “One More Time” — a song she had written over quarantine. This was the first song Gramins produced by herself, with help from a friend to mix the song’s three vocal tracks. “One More Time” is just one of the songs she submitted to the National YoungArts Foundation Competition as a junior. In November, she was named a 2021 National YoungArts Foundation Merit winner in the singer/songwriter category.
When asked about the future, Grace is already at work on a number of exciting projects. She continues to write and produce new music and looks forward to a time where live performances are possible again. Working with classmates Erin Foley and Liam Dollar, she continues to explore the possibility of having small performances outside for the local community.
Grace is also working to record a song to raise money and awareness for Daniel’s Music Foundation, a foundation she first found out about through her church community. Moved by their impact on so many lives, she began working with them in eighth grade. Daniel’s Music Foundation is a non-profit organization to empower individuals with developmental and physical disabilities through music.
